It all started at a Somerset agricultural show in May 2016, Brett and Danielle were looking for a thirst quenching refreshment with a kick. Although there were many drinks stands at the event there seemed to be something missing.
With a combined bar and hospitality knowledge of 17 years between them and a mutual love of fine wines, gins and Prosecco they knew that they could create something attractive, memorable but most importantly something that offered people what they wanted.
At that moment the Fizz Box Bar was born.
A 1950’s Rice horsebox was the platform for this project, with an impressive original wooden flooring still intact and quirky features such as the small and fully functioning front air vent shrouded in more original timber. The horsebox appeared to be in time warp condition albeit the tailgate and paintwork had seen better days. It was decided to remove the rear tailgate and weld a large smooth piece of sheet metal within the sturdy framework giving the Fizz Box its unique customised look.
A serving hatch was then cut by a steel fabricator, struts and hinges were added for convenient usage and safety. The Fizz Box Bar was then sprayed in a very shabby chic grey and wheels finished in ivory. The interior was clad with reclaimed wooden pallets, reclaimed oak scaffold boards were used for the bar and work tops. 21st century items such as 240 volt power, lighting, ice make and fridges for Champagne and flavoured Fever Tree tonics were installed along with a powerful cooler to chill the draught Frizzenti Prosecco, Thatchers Gold and Becks Vier.
Finally the horsebox bar is finished with specialty gins, a drop of Chambord and a variety of pork scratchings sure to please any palate.
